They demonstrate that we are given this precious life, this precious body not as an end in itself but for the purpose of realising the truth of our existence, resolving the question of human suffering, developing whatever it takes to manifest love and compassion and liberate all sentient beings from suffering.
Their fire tells me, I too should burn with the question of how to transform this reality of life on earth in 2012.
We in the West have empowered China through our unbridled addiction to economic growth, our attachment to our pension funds and material safety. The Tibetan people are suffering, their sacrifice is not just for awakening China, they are burning on behalf of all of us.
What chance do Tibetans have, how realistic their prospects of returning to their home? China has not invaded Tibet to liberate anyone or because Tibet would by right belong to China. Really, it is about resources, space for their population, the untold riches in the rocks of those great Himalayan mountains.
So even if someone would prove that Tibet never belonged to China, probably nothing much would change. The obvious would perhaps become a little more obvious.
In the apparent powerlessness of those great Tibetan minds, the story may serve the world as a metaphor for the real state of humanity, of this precious earth with all her fragile natural ecosystems held to ransom by the bullies of power and control. -
So the Tibetan drama is really a wake up call to the world.
The actions needed to save Tibet are precisely identical with what we need to do to save our world. And what we need to do to save our world will save Tibet.
If only we will not be discouraged by the way things look presently. Just remember the Berlin Wall.
What would it take to expect with firm conviction that Justice will prevail and the Tibetans of course and naturally have their home, their place to be, in the way they themselves chose to. Can we do that?
If we succeed to resolve the strife between China and Tibet, - succeed in all the necessary steps leading up to it, including environmental issues, - we will have a future on this planet, if not, life will become much harder for all of us.
I see the Tibetans are giving a great gift to the world. Their pain and their struggle, for the whole world to see, year after year, make it easy, even for ordinary citizens, not esoteric nor alternatively minded, not even spiritual to wake up to and participate in the all-important choice between what is right and what is convenient. Just, will we do it?
Therefore we must raise awareness and spread the word. The state of the world and the Tibetan issue alike require a "Global Spring", and if we will be able to manifest it, we do ourselves the biggest favor.
